Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval (R) took himself out of the running to be President Obama's nominee to the Supreme Court Thursday, just a day after it became public that the White House was considering him to replace Justice Antonin Scalia, who died earlier this month.

"Earlier today, I notified the White House that I do not wish to be considered at this time for a possible nomination," Sandoval said in a statement. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) had suggested Sandoval and the White House was in the process of vetting him, despite Senate Republicans' insistence that they wouldn't hold a hearing if he was nominated.
