Dick Cheney's memoir
What the former vice president's autobiography could reveal
Cheney: Penning a tell-all?
(Corbis)
Dick Cheney "mostly avoided addressing the media while in office," said CNN.com, but he's finally decided to speak out about his White House years. The former vice president has signed a deal with Simon & Schuster—reportedly "in excess of $2 million"—to write his memoirs, spanning his more than 40 years in government and "stretching all the way back to his roles in the Nixon and Ford administrations."
If Cheney "lets down his guard and writes frankly," said Yael T. Abouhalkah in the Kansas City Star, his memoir "could provide some excellent insights into what happened during those years in the White House." Cheney "wielded plenty of influence with Bush and his administration," so it will be interesting to hear his side of the story.
"Autobiographies are, by definition, self-serving," said Carl M. Cannon in Politics Daily, "and this one is not likely to break the mold," especially considering that "his ghost-writer is said to be his eldest daughter Liz Cheney." He's obviously going to try to improve his public image, as his reputation took "some serious hits" during the George W. Bush years.

Posted by Michael J. Gorman, Thursday, June 25, 2009, 5:28 pm Cheney is a sick, pathetic tyrant and megalomaniac. People will read his nonsense for fun and guffaws. Like Dan Rowen used to say to his partner Dick Martin on Laugh In SAY GOODNIGHT, DICK!
Posted by look into the light, Thursday, July 2, 2009, 4:17 pm Really, Michael...? How long have you known him?
Posted by Prairie Pat, Thursday, August 13, 2009, 9:08 am We knew him well enough. I remember watching his car go streaming down Massachusetts Avenue, security cars blazing the trail and sirens. The mean spirited little man with an ego that covered a block wide was on his way home. He was one of the most sinister and black cloaked tyrants this country has known.
Posted by Jay Radke, Thursday, August 13, 2009, 10:22 am I eagerly await a memoir from one of the finest public servants to come down the pike in a long time. His work in defense of our nation in the face of much public abuse is awesome. It is a rare plitician who puts his ideals ahead of the liberal polls and abuse of the leftists. In the Bush administration, Cheney was the rock while Bush waivered and surrundered to the left.
Posted by Carl, Thursday, August 13, 2009, 10:44 am Dick Cheney he it a loser in us do not ask what this country can do for you ask what you can do for this country.
Posted by Mike , Thursday, August 13, 2009, 11:27 am Yea, he's one of the finest public servants to come down the pike, then why did he what to do any with the GS rating and change it to a different rating system which is a joke to say the least. Ask anyone in the gov't.
Posted by Delia Barajas, Thursday, August 13, 2009, 11:38 am Why would Simon and Schuster or anyone pay Cheney to write about his memoirs. He left several memoirs in this country. The foreclosure crisis, unemployment rate, and especially they mess in Iraq. Why do politicians find a backbone to speak once they leave their nice three digit salaries.Simon and Schuster if you don't know what to do with your money, I can give you a list of places where money can make a positive impact in peoples lives.
Posted by Ed Banks, Thursday, August 13, 2009, 12:17 pm This man is a war criminal. There is no offence that Hitler committed that Cheney did not duplicate during the last 8 years. Why would anyone in his right mind read or listen to anything this fool had so say?
