The week’s other openings

New Haven, Conn.
Happy Now?
Yale Repertory Theatre, (203) 432-1234
British playwright Lucinda Coxon’s newest is “an astute, acerbic comedy about contemporary 40-somethings,” said The Hartford Courant. The hilarious interplay among Kitty, husband Johnny, and their motley assemblage of friends marks Coxon as “one to watch.”

Los Angeles
By the Waters of Babylon
Geffen Playhouse, (310) 208-5454
Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Schenkkan’s new play concerns a Cuban writer turned gardener in a turbulent relationship with an eccentric widow, said the Los Angeles Times. “No amount of fancy garnish can disguise” the limitations created by its hackneyed premise.

Boston
Saint Joan
Wheelock Family Theatre, (617) 879-2300
The Wheelock theater thinks George Bernard Shaw’s complex study of Joan of Arc is “suitable for school-age audiences,” said The Boston Globe. Its production makes the young French martyr a bit bloodless, but proves that “young audiences don’t only need light entertainment.”
