Michael Moore’s take on the economy

“As the American economy goes to hell in a hand basket,” said Variety online, “gadfly” director Michael Moore has decided to set his sites on “the villains of Wall Street and corporate America.” The man “who went after General Motors in his breakthrough film Roger & Me” seems like just the right person to take on “the Gordon ‘greed is Good’ Gekkos of the world”—this documentary “couldn't be more timely.”

“But will Americans take heed or listen?” said The Playlist online. Moore's “well-crafted Health Care documentary, Sicko,” asked U.S. audiences, ‘Is this fair?’ ‘Will you stand for this?’” They answered “with a resounding shrug and said, ‘Pass me the clicker and the Cheetos.’” And Moore “better hope” that the “economy doesn’t realign itself” before his film comes out, “or he may be too late to, ahem, capitalize.”

Well, Moore is “feverishly shooting,” said Steven Zeitchik in The Hollywood Reporter online, and this movie might come out by spring. But will “Moore's incredulousness and occasional pessimism about the state of U.S. policy,” which served him well during the Bush years, “play in the current hopeful climate brought on President-elect Barack Obama”? Then again, Moore sees this film as a “bookend to Roger & Me,” which featured plenty of commentary on the U.S. economy, so maybe it will play well.

what a pig.

Au contraire - M.M. is one of the few patriotic Americans who will tell it like it is, and always has.

Michael Moore is a royal pain in the ass, but he's "our" pain in the ass. He cares about people. He reminds me of Studs Turkel -- sometimes depressing and boring; other times right on the money and inspiring. A left-winger to be sure, but we need a percentage or real lefties in the mix if only to balance off the arrogant, nasty, stupid, ignorant extreme right wingers.

Jim Z., Interesting that you say M.M. is one of the few patriotic American who will “tell it like it is” because I don't think he has produced one film that doesn't have a number of inaccuracies. Not only does he misstate facts, but he omits certain facts to bolster his story. Some people would like to believe that M.M. is out “fighting for the little guy”, but in reality he is a film maker. A film maker needs to sell films to make a living. He doesn’t appear to be talented enough to make quality films that entertain Americans, so he has to resort to making these “documentaries” (if they can even be called that) that basically play to the feelings and opinions of a certain segment of society. Cha-ching he’s make his paycheck. The true test of his benevolence is how much of his earning does his give back to the people suffering in his films. How many people without health insurance did he help after his film “Sicko”? No, he can’t solve the system but I’m sure he made enough off the film to help one or two people suffering from severe healthcare costs. If he didn’t help anyone, he just profited from attempting to convenience Americans to get the government to take money from everyone. How patriotic is that?

Richard C. I am with you. He is like those country singers who live off of people's misery by singing sad songs and making money.
