Troopergate, Round 2
A second investigation of Palin finds no wrongdoing
Innocent?

A report from Alaska’s governor-appointed Personnel Board cleared Sarah Palin of any ethics violations in the Troopergate controversy, said John Riley in Newsday online. Issued by an independent investigator the night before the presidential election, the new report contradicts the recent findings of a legislative investigator that “Palin and her husband improperly tried to get a state trooper fired as part of a family feud.”
“This should finally put the silliness of ‘Troopergate’ to rest,” said John Hinderaker in Power Line. After “endless nonsense in the press,” the investigator—a Democrat, no less—found what should have been obvious from the start: Palin had every right to fire her public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, for seeking to undermine her policies.
It’s a little premature to say that “that the issue has been ‘laid to rest,’” said David Noon in the Minnesota Independent. The legislative investigation produced ample documentation of Palin’s abuse of power, but the personnel board released only an executive summary. Absent compelling evidence, the legislature is unlikely to drop the case.

Posted by edwards, Tuesday, November 4, 2008, 9:15 am Ya gotta wonder whether Sarah Palin (SarahSixPack.com) is going to be the GOP's standard bearer for 2012, or whether she'll just be a footnote in history. Obama (ObamaAgain2012.com) is a shoo-in this go-round, and it’s very likely that he’ll effectively use the power of his incumbency in ’12 to win a second term. Question is: Will Palin’s star power within the GOP continue all the way into 2016? Or isn’t it more likely that many brighter (!) GOP stars will emerge during the next 8 years?
Posted by Ben, Tuesday, November 4, 2008, 2:34 pm This is the end for the chipper-voiced, hate-spewing Palin. It looks like she's going to get the chance to go back to Alaska and put it some more quality time blasting the heads off wolves from a helicopter while her secretary arranges to fly her children to hither and yon on the State's dime. Fortunately, she'll also be able to get back to buying clothing from her favorite consignment shop. The GOP is going to lay the blame for this election defeat squarely at the feet of this lipstick-wearing pitbull, and reasonably so. Every single fence-leaner in the country fell off into Obama's yard the second they heard the good Governor of Alaska speak to Katie Couric. She provoked fear alright, fear that McCain would die in office and leave us with a crazy person running the country.
Posted by Tricia, Tuesday, November 4, 2008, 6:33 pm Oh please, she hand picked the people on the Personnel Board, "independent?" indeed! Most Alaskans agree with the first investigation.
Posted by ABL, Friday, November 7, 2008, 4:35 pm Hate, hate, hate! Just as BO is calling for unity among partisans, we see here the true face of the BO supporters. Just as bloggers cursed her for not aborting Trig, now it is off with her head for daring to still breathe after BO's win. Just makes everyone want to join with the loving (???) arms of BO backers.
