Foo Fighters vs. John McCain
What is John McCain thinking? asked Chris Harris in MTV online. His presidential campaign has “angered” musicians Jackson Browne, Van Halen, and Heart for allegedly using their songs during rallies without their permission. And now Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters have lashed out at the McCain campaign for using their song “My Hero.”
Put down your copyright "revolver,” said Scott Thill in Wired online. McCain's camp says Grohl should “register his complaint with Capitol Records or the Recording Industry Association of America,” because both have “evidently been paid what are probably very fat fees by the Republican candidate's camp to license nearly any tune it wants from their artists.”
Maybe so, said Sean Michaels in the Guardian, but the McCain campaign should change its tunes. “Rock music doesn't seem like the appropriate soundtrack to impending economic doom.” Maybe they should try “free-jazz, doom metal or musique concrète.”
