Best and worst Droid ad parodies
iPhone fans are striking back at Verizon's catchy new commercial. Are they having any success?
(Verizon Wireless)
Verizon’s new Droid smartphone will hit the market later this week, driven by a massive advertising campaign featuring enormous electronic billboards in Times Square and the buzzy iPhone-bashing TV ad, "Droid Does." But Apple zealots have come fighting back with video parodies of the spot — some have been more successful than others:
HITS
• "iDon’t Care": This spoof earned a glowing review from the social media blog Mashable which calls it a "clever fan-generated retort to the original spot." Views to date: 250,000. Watch the "iDon't Care" video.
MISSES
• "iDon’t care": A YouTube slacker laments his poor quality of life, revealing that he lacks a girlfriend and has no appetite for cheese, but saying nothing germane about smartphones. Views to date: 500. Watch the "iDon't care" video.
• "Droid Doesn’t": This amateur spot goes negative on Motorola and Verizon with slams like, "Droid doesn’t have 100,000 apps." Views to date: 200. View the "Droid Doesn't" video parody.
• "iDo": This user generated video touts the iPhone’s virtues in exclamatory ways: "iDo look better than any phone… ever!" Views to date: 100. Watch the energetically defensive "Ido" spoof.
HONORABLE MENTION
• "Darth Vader’s iPhone": In this coincidentally ironic spot that predates Verizon’s ad, the Dark Lord raves about his iPhone ("Say you need to buy a Droid...there’s an app for that!") as he summons up a virtual R2D2 on his screen. Views to date: 43,000. Watch Darth Vader express his love for Apple’s smartphone.

Posted by abnarsh, Monday, November 2, 2009, 6:42 pm The first time I saw verizon's idont commercial, it seemed cheap and lazy. Glad to see fellow apple users are fighting back with professional looking videos of their own.
Posted by Dantestraw, Tuesday, November 3, 2009, 12:18 pm I wonder how many of these ads are being made by Apple users and how many are being made by cheesedoff Apple employees?
Posted by bored, Thursday, November 5, 2009, 7:09 pm or how many are being made my apple lackeys who post this shit to allow their fellow lackeys to circle jerk. So let's get this straight, your trying to make fun of a commercial that spoofs your favorite product, by making a commercial that spoofs the commercial that spoofs your favorite product? Seriously? Way to go guys. I sure hope your fellow iaddicts suck you off enough to make you feel smug.
Posted by haha, Friday, November 6, 2009, 3:07 pm I have to agree with bored on this one... Besides the fact that the iDon't commercials create a lot of buzz by being vague, the iPhone really is just another phone. Quit talking about it like it saved your life. It is not Jesus. It actually kind of sucks, but that's what you get when the company you are a fanboy of only wants to upsell you on your next purchase... Not to mention that Apple runs the same type of ad against Microsoft...
Posted by Dejos, Monday, November 9, 2009, 12:08 am I'm sure apple would never compare itself to another company and try to show that company as inefficient or ineffective, or as a dopey balding nerd. I'm sure apple would never try to imply that it's services are better than a direct competitor.
Posted by BillE, Thursday, November 19, 2009, 1:23 pm You can have IPhone.... or anything Apple. The fact that you can't change the battery for yourself in an IPhone is incredible ARROGANCE on their part. Apple is for shallow people who have to follow the crowd, even if the product is a piece of crap.
