Sarah Palin: Honest but unqualified?
The significance of a CNN poll finding that most Americans see Palin as trustworthy, but not presidential
Sarah Palin: In 2012, will it matter what Americans thought about her in 2009? (Corbis)
A majority of Americans think Sarah Palin is honest and trustworthy, according to a new CNN/Opinion Research poll. But 70 percent of respondents said the former Republican vice presidential candidate is not qualified to be president. Do Palin's poll numbers matter?
They do if she ever wants to return to politics: Poll numbers "can and do change," says Marc Ambinder in The Atlantic. "But unfavorable ratings are hard to dislodge. Since Palin's is based on her perceived lack of experience, one presumes that she would do well to gain experience if she wants to run for president" in 2012.
"Palin's honest but unqualified, Americans say"
Palin has plenty of ardent fans to be a contender: Sarah Palin may very well decide not to run for president in 2012, says Chris Cillizza in The Washington Post. But, despite her falling favorability ratings, she still has more Republican support (21 percent) than any GOP rival except Mike Huckabee (25 percent). "The field is far from set," but Palin's no dark horse if she decides to run.
"No room for a 2012 underdog?"
The important thing is that people trust Palin: It doesn't matter that more Republican voters like Mike Huckabee, said the blog Left Coast Rebel. The important thing is that Americans think Palin is "trustworthy" and "genuine." Those traits will be crucial after four years of "Obamanation" -- people will gradually see that Palin's presidential as they get to know her better.

Posted by Fred, Wednesday, October 28, 2009, 9:31 pm What that poll shows is that 70 are unqualified to judge presidential qualifications. No doubt that same 70 would have believed that both Truman and Lincoln were unqualified, and that Carter was qualified. Such stupid people.
Posted by Truth Matters, Thursday, October 29, 2009, 2:13 am Palin is honest and brilliant, whose talents are simply not yet realized. Forget the polls. Our current president, however, appears playing Mr. President in a movie, beautiful words, suit, teeth, smile, vocalizations, all the part to be played. And that's it, Obama is a great actor, liberal as hollywood, hollywoodizing our country, seducing the American public through the word change while crucifying George Bush, and becoming America's first real dictator. Pretty teeth America????
Posted by bill rubenstein, Thursday, October 29, 2009, 3:35 am Sarah Palin is one of the most dishonest and contrived politicians ever to run for office. Every speech she makes is a model of manipulation and false argumentation. As a history/lit teacher, I recognize of course the fact that uneducated people are easy prey for the marketing shtick behind her every move. But I despair that so many Americans can be so naive. If we had better educational standards in our country if everyone understood the history of politics and rhetoric everyone would see that she is the very model of a phony.
Posted by nicth var, Thursday, October 29, 2009, 9:26 am Look at the history of Sarah's public appearances since she left her Governor's office. She has been absent from the public. There were reports she was invited here or there for her party but somehow was a noshow. Coincidental that what she was deeply involved in conflicted with requests for an appearance? Maybe, maybe not. Now it sounds like she will be a bit more public and there are over a thousand requests for her appearance in one arena and no doubt scheduled book promotions of her own. It will paint her as indifferent to political venues
Posted by Zer goot, Thursday, October 29, 2009, 9:38 am ...if she continues to be consumed with her own promotional plans. She is being made to look bad by her own party while rhetoric flies of how the Dem's hate her. Palin is purposely being torn from her agendas to diminish them. The conflict will appear as her own. In a very clever way she is going to make herself look bad to her party and the Bee is on the Dems as being hateful, and in opposition. That will retain the religious right support in the party, which is her biggest draw. It's a WinWin for the planners of the NeoConsto get her out.
Posted by justiceserved, Thursday, October 29, 2009, 11:18 am HONEST? You've got to be kidding, bridge to nowhere, death panels, and on and on.There has never been a bigger liar or front in recent politics. She supports local governance, then backs a carpetbagger in a NY race in a district where he doesn't live and when he's interviewed by local editorial board he's annoyed that he can't answer the questions regarding local issues that he was given the day before! In northern NY they want jobs, are not deciding their vote on foreign policy. If ignorance is bliss, Palin must be ecstatic!!!
Posted by tourist, Thursday, October 29, 2009, 11:25 am Honest, in the sense that she spews her venomous attacks without remorse. Remember, she knows who the REAL Americans and Patriots are. She knows who the REAL Christians are. Also, remember she honestly believes an african witch doctor is responsible for her winning the governor's seat in Alaska. There is something to be said for knowing who the aholes are, and Sarah Palin leaves no doubt. It is her honesty that lets us know she is not qualified intellectually or tempermentally to be President.
Posted by I am sooooo smart, Thursday, October 29, 2009, 11:19 pm bill rubenstein, is that you ward churchill? If you are really a history/lit teacher, please tell me where you teach. I wouldn't want my children and grandchildren exposed to you. I disagree with you but then again, I have a doctorate in political science. Maybe a little more education on your part would open your eyes, and then again, I doubt it.
