Pat Buchanan and 'white America'
Have middle-class whites lost standing? If so, is that bad?
Pat Buchanan

There's a reason for "the alienation and radicalization of white America," said Pat Buchanan in WorldNetDaily, and it has nothing to do with the election of Barack Obama, our first black president. In their lifetimes, traditional, middle-class whites "have seen their Christian faith purged from schools their taxes paid for," they've been mocked in movies and on TV, and now they're watching Wall Street banks bailed out as they "sweat their next paycheck." No wonder they distrust the government.
Who is Pat Buchanan to say "who America really belongs to"? said Adam Serwer in The American Prospect. "Black Americans have shed blood in every American war since the Revolution," and "are as American as it gets." Buchanan says this has nothing to do with President Obama's election, but as long as people like Buchanan and Rush Limbaugh "are making the explicit case that white Americans lose something precious with the election of a black president, I think that conclusion is not entirely credible."
This country has never belonged to just white America, said Matthew Yglesias in Think Progress. This has always been a racially diverse society, and Barack Obama's election shows how much progress we've made toward honoring that fact. But Pat Buchanan is right about one thing: "It’s probably true that white America has 'lost' 'its' country, but that’s a good thing. It’s everyone’s country!"

Posted by Mo, Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 9:32 am Buchanan reminds me of the frightful gargoyle Joseph McCarthy who terrorized innocent citizens decades ago.Furthermore, when it comes to equality for others, Buchanan 's twisted mind is just as SCARY.
Posted by kurtis, Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 12:07 pm pat buchanan mind is amazing, this article is poorly written with no apparant arguement please read the article that pat buchannon wrote in world net daily there is a link to it above , ps the country was 90 percent white up to the mid sixties
Posted by Gut shot, Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 1:00 pm Hey Mo, as I stated earlier in another article, Joseph McCarthy was 50 years too early. There are actually communists in American politics and Hollywood today. Read the entire article that Pat B. wrote.
Posted by Parah Salin, Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 1:48 pm Pat Buchanan is a Hitler apologist, so anything he says should be taken with a serious grain of salt. Also, America has never been 90 percent white, not even in 1760s, unless of course you don't count the blacks as people. And communists in Hollywood?! Oh no.
Posted by Parah Salin, Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 1:50 pm Actually, Kurtis, I would love to see how you come up with that '90 percent white' figure. Please elucidate.
Posted by Janniel, Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 2:27 pm This white woman doesn't feel that she has lost anything. Rather, I feel that whites have made tremendous gains by speaking out for equality and justice for all.
Posted by Lonny, Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 2:44 pm Who fought for the freedom of slaves? Go back farther than 50 years. White republicans from the north fought to give blacks the freedoms they said they wanted. What did the south do? Entitlements only serve to enslave the people they profess to help. A hand UP is good. A hand OUT only keeps you down.
Posted by Sovereignty Soldier, Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 3:12 pm Mo are you kidding. You do not really believe what you have been taught regarding McCarthy do you. McCarthy was an American patriot who, if he would have had the people's support, would have exposed the real traitors in Hollywood, media, and government to all the people. He would have should Americans what their leaders are and taught them to distrust their government. Instead the media destroyed him and his credibility and the revisionist history has demonized him so as to discourage anyone from ever going that route again.
