But Forum Novelties Inc. is trying to cash in on racist stereotypes by selling—through Walgreens, Target, and other major retailers—an "illegal alien" Halloween costume, featuring a space alien mask, an orange prison jumpsuit, and an oversize green card. Maybe the joke would be funny if undocumented immigrants weren't still being beaten to death by young men raised on xenophobic hatred. (Watch reactions to the costume)
What "absurd outrage," said commentator Debbie Schlussel in her blog. "You can sell Nazi memorabilia on eBay," but let a secure borders group, Americans for Legal Immigration, try to sell a "funny illegal alien costume" and eBay yanks it. Sorry, but the marketplace has spoken—many costume stores that carried the costume have sold them out.
Some stores—including Walgreens' website and Target—have pulled the costumes, said Alan Colmes in Liberaland. But "my fellow pro-immigrant friends" should "lighten up." If pro-immigration groups think the Illegal Alien costume is "distasteful, mean-spirited, and ignorant," maybe we should "just call it an 'Undocumented Worker' costume and leave it at that."

Is PETA going to ask Target to ban all furry costumes? Is the ACLU going to ask WalMart to remove their pimp costumes? And God forbid the werewolves and vampires ever get a support group together! I am proud to be living in a country that has such rights, and I believe Target and these others retailers should respectfully decline to acknowledge any fringe groups complaints about something as trivial as this. Grow up!

They crossed our border ILLEGALLY, and now they think they have the right to tell store what costumes they can/can't carry. You broke the law. You're a criminal. In the eyes of our law, you have NO rights. If you don't like it, feel free to go back home. I think the costume is funny. People need to remember what a sense of humor is. I'm tired of everyone being so offended by everything. Grow a spine.
Posted by Hoovin, Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 9:59 am I think illegally immigrating into our country is distasteful and offensive, so I have no problem with the costume that they find distasteful being pulled if they stop immigrating illegally which I find distasteful. Funny how liberal groups have such a double standard and yell so loudly about their own sensibilities, yet have no concern for the sensibilities of the other side.
