Sarah Palin meets Oprah Winfrey
Why two powerful women who were on opposite sides of the presidential campaign now want to talk
Sarah Palin and Oprah Winfrey
(Corbis)
In the world of television, said Verne Gay in Newsday, this is "big news. No, bigbigbigbig news." Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will sit down and talk with Oprah Winfrey—one of the biggest celebrity supporters of Barack Obama's campaign. Oprah wouldn't give Palin airtime during the campaign, so it should be interesting to see how the two get along.
There's just one reason Sarah Palin chose Oprah Winfrey over all the other TV shows trying to book her, said Thomas Conner in the Chicago Sun-Times. "She's got a book to sell"—her Going Rogue: An American Life is coming out late this year. "And Oprah can move tanker-loads of books."
Oprah Winfrey won't exactly come away empty handed, said Mark Silva in the Chicago Tribune. Oprah helps Palin sell books, Palin gives Oprah the first exclusive interview on the eve of the release of Going Rogue. "It's a mutually satisfying arrangement."

Posted by Troy Chance, Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 11:50 am Oprah does poorly when she tries to delve into politics like most Americans, her political curiosity extends little beyond her own vested interests. This has proven irresponsible, as when she hosted Schwarzenegger for a soft interview before his election, lending credibility to celebrity over substance he was elected without having to articulate any kind of political position or philosophy and she was happy to play along. Palin fits the profile in this respect, but Oprah's interview will be too thin to teach us anything.

Posted by Troy Chance, Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 11:52 am Dude, why does the comment board filter out semicolons?
Posted by KPW, Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 4:18 pm I think it's paranoia about spam. A post with a url in it will be automatically deleted as spam, and deleting semicolons will break any other html. The paranoia, unfortunately, is well founded.
Posted by KPW, Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 4:20 pm Hyphens are also deleted. No idea why on that. If there isn''t a dash in front of this sentence, those are deleted too.
Posted by Howard, Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 5:24 pm Sarah Palin, Ms. Yesterday's Papers, needs the exposure of Oprah Winfrey's show a lot more than Oprah needs Palin. I think this is a bad move for Oprah as it cheapens her image.
