Andrew Young: Cashing in on John Edwards' affair?
Does a book proposal by Edwards' former aide make the ex-politician look worse?

First, the National Enquirer broke the news of John Edwards' affair "and nobody listened," said Foster Kamer in Gawker. Now The New York Times is "running with the ball," with a juicy story about a "leaked book proposal by Andrew Young, the Edwards aide who once claimed paternity of Rielle Hunter's child." Among the details: Edwards once tried to soothe Hunter by promising to marry her after his cancer-stricken wife, Elizabeth Edwards, died—could he be sleazier than we already thought?
The "Silky Pony" certainly isn't the Southern gentleman he pretended to be, said Rod Dreher in BeliefNet, when he was running for the Democratic presidential nomination. Now the Times says he's thinking about admitting what he long denied—that he's the father of Rielle Hunter's daughter. But Andrew Young is pretty slimy himself—instead of atoning by confessing his role in the "disgusting cover-up" for free to a journalist, he's trying to sell his betrayal of his old friend to the highest bidder.
So, first Andrew Young fixed up his boss John Edwards on the road, said Mike Lupica in the New York Daily News, and "now he is willing to throw Edwards under the nearest bus to sell a book. You know what brought a sleazebag like this together with Edwards? Destiny, that's what."

Posted by Sandra Bronsberg, Monday, September 21, 2009, 3:21 pm I think Mr. Young's book coming out at this time is pathetic, because of respect for Elizabeth Edwards. This is not to excuse John Edwards for what he did/or not. But because it is truly cruel. Mr. Young could hold out for his money at a later date. If this is a fact, it won't change. Here is another expression of greed. I am totally sick of everything. I will not purchase this book.

He is pathetic and I hope that his book is a failure. GREEDY and poor taste. What happened to aides who were loyal, and kept their mouths shut? Mr Edwards is the worst kind of politican, father and husband. We know that, Mr Young. We do not need your reminder, but this is how you make money, right? Selling trash. You and Edwards are quite a garbage pair. Gutter people.

I supported John, worked for him on both campaigns, knew him, he's a decent guy that screwed up the way millions of people do. Andrew Young is an opportunistic scumbag who's making up a great deal of this crap. John Edwards is a footnote in politcal history, anything and everything that's happened since he dropped out of that race is, or at least should be, a private matter between him and his family. If he was still an active politician it would be different but he's not. Do what John did...quit.

But he didn't abandon his kids, didn't leave his dying wife, dropped out of a political race then did his best to stay out of the spotlight and shield his wife and family from the whole thing. No argument that he screwed up in one of the worst ways but he handled it about as best as one could.

Andrew Young's life was ruined because Edwards asked him to take the fall to deflate the affair to aide screws up instead of candidate screws up. Edwards' plan was to hide the affair, deny the baby, and continue on down his happy campaign trail until the whole shebang erupted and cost the Democrats the presidency. Decent guy? Who first discussed the whole mess in a book, on Oprah, and every cheesy tabloid talk show? It was Elizabeth. Young spent about 8 years as John's personal gopher and fall guy. So who is scum?

Posted by george nelson, Tuesday, September 22, 2009, 1:07 pm for a dying wife to be subjected to this is the lowest common denominator these men could possibly come up with. typical politicians. for better or for worse does not mean you strive for the latter, john. both should be ashamed to show their faces in public. my prayers are with the wife, may she find some measure of peace and solace from this debacle. as for the ongoing debate as to who is scum here, lets call it a tie.
